Obituary for Jerrald Richard Broderick Jerrald Richard Broderick Jerrald Richard Broderick, 79, of Orem, Utah, quietly slipped from this life on April 13, 2018. He was born July 6, 1938 in Roosevelt, Utah to Hillard Ruben Broderick and Crystal Hill Broderick. He grew up in a large, blended family, so he always had fun with siblings.
He played football for Union High School and graduated from there. He went on to Carbon College and played football for them before graduating with a degree in auto mechanics. Jerrald was drafted into the Army in 1960, and served in California for two years.
Upon his return home, he attended Utah State University in Logan and earned a bachelor’s degree in physics. He then took graduate classes from University of Utah and BYU. With his education, Jerrald went to work for Boeing Aircraft Company in Seattle, WA.
as a design engineer. He came back to Utah and worked designing high speed cameras. One of the cameras he worked on captured pictures of the Challenger missile accident.
Jerrald understood how things work and he could fix anything. With his electrical background, he wired homes in Provo and remodeled homes in central Utah. He was a stickler for detail and knew how to made things work.
He was often called upon by those in need and willingly provided service. He fixed many cars for people who could not get them to run. When people found out he could fix cars, he was constantly given projects and kept busy helping his neighbors and family keep their cars running.
Many in the family have benefited from those skills and we were thankful for his many hours of selfless, expert help with little or no pay. He loved the outdoors: hiking, boating, camping, etc. Nature provided the peace that made him happy.
He often invited nieces and nephews along on his adventures. He is preceded in death by his parents and 8 sibling: Verena Easton (Mack); Clifford Broderick; Owen Broderick (Ruth); Howard Broderick (Joyce); Clara Washburn (Aldean); Lee R. Broderick (Genavee); Dee Broderick (Marsha); and Dillard Broderick (Marilyn). He is survived by 10 siblings: Luelma Spencer (Ken); DeRae Broderick (Pauline); Dawn Rice (Vernon); Tom Broderick (Karma); Elva Richardson (David); May Swallow (Sylvan); Carol Wilson (Garland); Roy Broderick (Charlotte); Ruby (Kit) Allred (Ken); Heidi Broderick and numerous nieces and nephews.
The only viewing will be held on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at 9:30 AM to 10:30 AM at the LDS chapel 650 S. 400 E. Orem, UT. The funeral service will follow at 11 AM. Interment will be in the Roosevelt City Cemetery We thank all the doctors, nurses and service people from the Timpanogos Regional hospital, Utah Valley Specialty hospital and Hospice for their kind, caring and expert service to our beloved brother Jerrald.
