Obituary for Janice Cowley Janice Cowley, age 72, passed away peacefully at South Ogden Post Acute Care Center on Friday, May 25, 2018. She suffered from a stroke which she did not recover from. She was surrounded by her family.

She was born on February 18, 1946, to Waldo Valdez (W. Val) Cowley and Maxine Leek Cowley, in Ogden, Utah. She attended Quincy and T. O. Smith Elementary, Mount Ogden Junior High, and graduated from Ogden High School in 1964 and went on to Weber State College where she graduated with a degree in Art.

She was born with Arthrogryposis which is a muscle and joint disease. The Doctors expected her to never be able to walk, but her determination proved the Doctors wrong! She was a very talented artist and did beautiful Calligraphy.

She worked at DDO in Ogden as an Illustrator for 17 years. She was awarded Handicap of the Year for 1987. She worked for a while at the Death and Blind School in Ogden after retiring from DDO on a disability.

She loved working there. She also painted sugar cookies and shaped Marzipan at Christmas in various fruits and vegetables at her sister’s and brother-in-law’s bakery, Topper Bakery. They looked so very real!

She loved doing this and looked forward to it each year. She also did art work for her families’ store, Cowley’s Apparel Store, while it was in business. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

She taught Primary, served in the Nursery, and took care of the Bulletin Board. She took her Temple Endowment out in 1985. She had a strong testimony of our Savior and loved to share it with others.

She was a member of the old 44th Ward, which later became the Sullivan Hollow 1st ward till 2013 when she moved to Manor Care, which is now South Ogden Post Acute Care Center, on January 1, 2014. She loved art, camping, Bear Lake, taking care of her niece and nephews when they were young and watching people! She loved when anyone would come and visit her.

She would lite up. She will be deeply missed by her family, but we know that she is happy running, opening her hands, and doing everything she was unable to do before! She was preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousin.

Surviving are her brother Richard Val (Wilma) Cowley, Syracuse, Utah, Valeen (David) DeRyke, Ogden, Utah, and Sandra (Chris) Bond, Mountain Green, Utah. She has 9 Nieces and Nephews, and 26 Great Nieces and Nephews. Interment at the Aultorest Cemetery in Ogden.

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, May 31, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at the South Ogden Post Acute Care Center at 5540 S 1050 E Ogden, Utah in the Heritage Room. Friends and family may come and share a special memory of Janice and visit with the family. The Family would like to express our deepest gratitude to the Nurses and Staff at SOPA for their love and care of our sister over the years and to Brighton Home Health and Hospice for their tender care.

Dee Crowton, you made our sisters life much happier we couldn’t have made it without your love and caring for her. Thank you.
