Dorothy I. Bongle, 84, of Green Bay, formerly of Sturgeon Bay, passed away Thursday night, April 19, 2018 at Green Bay Health Services. She was born April 30, 1933 in Indiana, the daughter of the late Russel and Henrietta (Schroeder) Mellott. Dorothy graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1951.

She received her nursing education at NWTC. Dorothy worked at Door County Memorial Hospital, first as a nurse’s aid and later as an LPN. She had previously worked for for Dr. Schrank DDS in Sturgeon Bay.

Dorothy enjoyed music, classical music, playing cards especially cribbage and sheepshead, knitting, crocheting, and reading, especially mystery novels. She was a selfless person as her life of caring would show. Dorothy was also known to play the piano and organ for Mass at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Egg Harbor and also for school events her children participated in.

She had been a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Sturgeon Bay. Dorothy is survived by her four children, Jean Kussow of Green Bay, Sandra (Brad Hennig) Buchberger of Kaukauna, Milton Bongle of Brussels, and Barbara (Steven) Hoeckendorff of Brussels; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, Marcia Mellott. She was preceded in death by her parents; two children, Darleen Franke, Louis Bongle; sister, Marietta (Clifford) Londo; and brother, Robert Mellott.

Dorothy’s life will be honored with a memorial service held at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, May 4, 2018 at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay with Fr. Anthony Birdsall officiating. Burial will be in the Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery in Institute.

Visitation for family and friends will be held at the funeral home on Friday, May 4, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. until the service at 6:30 p.m. Memorials may be given in her memory for Wisconsin Alzheimer’s Research. Huehns Funeral Home & Door County Crematory LLC are assisting the Bongle family.
