Esther A. Borkovetz, 89 years, of Sturgeon Bay passed away Saturday May 19, 2018 at the Skilled Nursing Center of Door County Medical Center with family at her side. She was born December 23, 1928 in Walhein, WI, Scarborough, the daughter of the late Joseph and Esther (Freix) Dax. Following her graduation from high school Esther worked in the office at Morley-Murphy Company in Green Bay until her marriage.

On September 24, 1949 she married Robert F. Borkovetz at St. Amand’s Catholic Church in Walhein, WI. Robert preceded her in death on May 9, 2007. They farmed together after their marriage.

Esther was proud of their chicken operation, that Robert automated the collection of eggs, raising over 2,000 chickens which were supplied to neighboring restaurants and food outlets. Esther’s greatest joy in life was her family and raising eight children. She was always supportive of her husband’s endeavors and was a motivating force in his life, whether it be starting the construction business “Holiday Homes”, the Sunshine House, or Jellystone Campgrounds, her influence was woven into every aspect of their life.

Her loving devotion family really showed as she raised eight children, especially her care and concern shown to her son Jeff. She was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, and St. Ann’s Society. Esther’s personality made a great fit for the Red Hatters women’s club.

Esther loved flower gardening, finishing furniture, sewing, quilting, painting, making stained glass, and made beautiful, ornate family Christmas heirloom ornaments that will be enjoyed for many generations to come. Her family includes, eight children, Tom (Julie), Jerry (Sally), Sandy Borkovetz, Bob (Barb), Rick (Heidi), Ken (Janel), John (Laura), Jeff; 24 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; sister, Myra Daul; brother, Larry (Carolyn) Dax; sister-in-law, Susan Dax. Preceding her in death were her parents, Joseph and Esther Dax; and husband, Robert Borkovetz; infant sister, Doris; two brothers and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Merle (John) Bilek, Donald (Verle), Joseph; brother-in-law, Robert Daul.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday (May 29, 2018) at Corpus Christi Catholic Church with Fr. Carl Schmitt officiating. Entombment will be at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery Mausoleum.

Friends may call from 9:00 a.m. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday May 29, 2018 at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. A rosary will be prayed at 9:30 a.m. The family of Esther would like to thank the nursing staff at Skilled Nursing Facility for their compassionate care shown to our mother during her years there, and to the companionship of Donnie the cat at SNF. Memorials may be made in her memory for Sunshine House.
