Dorothy Jean Tousignant, 93, of Marquette, died Thursday afternoon, November 8, 2018 at Brookridge Heights Assisted Living with her daughter by her side and under the care of U.P. Home Health and Hospice. Dorothy was born on July 16, 1925 in Ishpeming to the late Arvid and Olga (Peterson) Anderson. She was an honors graduate from Ishpeming High School in the class of 1943.

Together they enjoyed 56 years of marriage. Dorothy and Bud built their own home in Gwinn when their children were at a young age. Over the years, the entire Tousignant family along with other relatives and friends enjoyed spending time at the family cottage on Johnson Lake.

Dorothy worked as an assistant city accountant for the City of Marquette for over 15 years. Prior to her work in Marquette, She was employed as the deputy clerk/treasurer at Forsyth Township. She served as both secretary and president of the State Housing Commission in Marquette.

Dorothy received an Exemplary Citizen Award from the City of Marquette. She was a member of St. Peter Cathedral and enjoyed water color painting, decorating her home and was an avid reader. She was also a talented seamstress, sewing many of her own outfits and even made hats.

Dorothy formerly taught catechism at St. Anthony parish in Gwinn and also served in a variety of offices on their altar society. She is survived by her daughter, Claire (Alan) Rose of Harvey as well as nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death besides her parents was her husband, Teles “Bud” Tousignant on January 4, 2000; a son, Paul T. Tousignant on June 2, 1995; also siblings, Robert Anderson, Florence Wright and Borghild Medlyn.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 15 at 1:30 p.m. in the Canale-Tonella Funeral Home with Rev. Msgr. Michael Steber officiating.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the funeral home beginning at 12:30 p.m. Burial will take place at the Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Peter Cathedral or the Peter White Public Library.
