Dorothy Maclovia Maestas Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, Dorothy Maclovia Maestas, age 82, returned home to our Heavenly Father on Saturday, May 11, 2019 after a short illness. She was born on December 21, 1936 in Red River, New Mexico, to Frank and Florida Archuleta. She grew up in a small mining town called Elizabeth Town, New Mexico.

She married Henry Chavez in 1956. From this union they had seven children. They lived in Okland, California and Taos, New Mexico before moving to Tooele, Utah.

They later divorced. In June of 1974 she remarried to Jose Ralph Maestas. From this marriage she was blessed with four additional children.

Dorothy was a member of St. Marguerite’s Catholic Church and her faith was the driving force in her life. She worked many different jobs, but what she loved the most was taking care of all the children that adoringly called her “Grandma”. Dorothy enjoyed taking care of her flower gardens, holiday decorating, crocheting, scrap booking, doing crossword puzzles, and cooking.

You could always count on the smell of tortillas, green chili, enchiladas, beans and Texas cake in her home. Of course, her favorite hobby was playing with her grandchildren. She had the most amazing imagination.

She would play, color and draw with her grandchildren in such a way that it would make them truly feel as each individual child was the most precious and loved in the world. She is survived by her children Anna Didrickson, Frank Chavez, Evelyn-Jean (Jeff) Jones, Daniel (Arlene) Chavez, Raymond Chavez (Sylvia), Doreen (Herbert) Cardenas, Mark (Melody) Chavez, Evelyn (Lino) Morgas, Michael (Debbie) Maestas, Anthony (Arlene) Maestas, Ralph Maestas, 41 Grandchildren, 71 Great-Grandchildren (including her “adoptive” grandchildren) and her siblings: Henry (Theresa) Archuleta, Josie (Dan) Gonzales, Birtha (Juan) Rivera, Priscilla Polacio, Francis Miller, Mary-Ann (Tino) Montoya, Lawrence Archuleta, and her special niece Vera Martinez. She was preceded in death by her parents Frank and Florida, her husband Jose Ralph, her brothers Panchito Archuleta and Gerald Archuleta, her baby sister Mary Archuleta, and grandchildren Priscilla Morgas and Luciano Royball.

Services will be held at St. Marguerite’s Catholic Church: 15 South 7th Street, Tooele, UT. A viewing, rosary, & eulogy will be held on Wednesday, May 15, 2019. Viewing from 6-7 PM; rosary and eulogy from 7-8 PM.

Funeral mass will be held on Thursday, May 16, 2019 at 1:00 PM. Friends may call one hour before the funeral. Interment will follow at the Tooele City Cemetery.

She will be missed by all who knew her. We love you and we’ll miss you always Mom!
