Dorothy Mae Maddox, 74, of South Haven and formerly of Detroit, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2019 at the Rose Arbor Hospice in Kalamazoo. She was born November 28, 1944 to Junie and Marzie (Crook) Maddox in South Haven, Michigan. Dorothy graduated from South Haven High School with the Class of 1963.

She then attended Ferris State College for two years. Dorothy held several jobs including at South Haven Coil, Claude Mann Reality, and as a social worker for the Department for Human Services for the State of Michigan before her eventual retirement. Dorothy was a faithful member of the Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church.

She became a member on April 1, 1978. She was a member of the hospitality committee, Woman and Girls Choir and a Church Door Monitor. Dorothy was also a member of the Gamm Phi Delta sorority.

Her smile will shine on in all of us. She is preceded in death along with parents by a brother – William Pearson, Jr. Dorothy is survived by her siblings – Cubie Maddox of Hawaii, Claudia Maddox of South Haven, and Laura White of Indianapolis, Indiana; godsons – Eric Christie and Charles Fuller, Jr.; cousin – Robert (Lanette) Garrison; six nieces and a nephew, seven great-nieces and three great-nephews; two great-great nieces, many friends and co-workers. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at the Emmanuel Community Church in South Haven.

Funeral services will follow the visitation at 11:00 AM with Pastors Johnnie Green II and Nathaniel Johnson officiating at the church. Dorothy will be laid to rest at Lakeview Cemetery in South Haven.
