Dorothy’s Obituary Dorothy Marie Allen was born on March 8, 1944 in Prescott, Arkansas. She was the only child born to Joe and Marple Mae Gulley Sims. Dorothy was an active and lively little girl who accepted Christ at a tender age.
She was a life-long member of St. John Baptist Church in Bluff City. Dorothy was a 1962 graduate of McRae High School in Prescott, Arkansas and attended a trade school where she studied nursing in hopes of one day becoming a nurse. She married Thomas E. Moss, Sr., on April 20, 1963 and to this union three children were born.
Dorothy was as member of the Royal Grand Chapter Order of Eastern Star Prince Hall Affiliation Arkansas Jurisdiction Ferdinand Chapter No. 138 Chidester, Arkansas. She later married Rev.
Marshall Allen on October 5, 1990 and co-labored with him as pastor of Union Grove Baptist Church and presently Eastern Star Baptist Church in Smithton, Arkansas. At Eastern Star she served on the mother’s board, was a member of the choir and served as an usher. She had a sweet and welcoming spirit.
She worked as a greeter at the Wal-Mart Supercenter in Arkadelphia for 15 years. Her infectious smile and friendly demeanor made every shopping experience pleasant. She never met a stranger and possessed a very quiet but powerful spirit.
Her favorite color was yellow and her style could illuminate any eye. She was a self-proclaimed “fashionista” and always took pride in looking beautiful from head to toe, which included her hair, clothes and nails. Dorothy was the epitome of daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, friend, matriarch, mentor, neighbor, counselor, confidante and servant.
Her doors were always open for food, fun and fellowship. She loved holidays and always decorated her yard with various flowers and roses. She loved to cook “soul food” and her home was the place to gather for a great meal and many laughs.
On Sunday, January 27, 2019, she passed from this life surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her parents; a granddaughter, Tanasia Marks and a great-granddaughter, Jadasia Cole. Because love is far greater than death, her memories will live on in the hearts of her husband, Rev.
Marshall Allen; her children, Thomas (Janet) Moss, Jr., of Prescott, AR, Gregory A. Moss of Prescott, AR and Teritha Muldrow of Emmett, AR; a bonus son, Marshall Allen of Benton, AR; ten grandchildren, twenty-three great-grandchildren; Marie Tate of Sherwood, AR whom she loved like a sister.
