Obituary of Dorothy Ackerson Dorothy Gehsmann Ackerson (Dotty), 90, passed away peacefully on March 2, 2019 at Good Samaritan Hospital. Dotty was born February 10, 1929 to August and Anna Gehsmann. Born in Monsey, NY, Dotty was a life time resident of Nanuet.

She was preceded in death by her husband William and brother, Karl. Dotty is survived by her cousin Joan Dunnigan and several nieces and nephews. Dotty dedicated her younger years to the family florist business where she spent many hours working in the greenhouses.

She later worked on the assembly line at Lederle Laboratories in Pearl River. Dotty expressed her living faith and love for God as a committed parishioner at Saint Anthony’s Church. After retirement, Dotty’s involvement in several senior groups brought her great companionship and the opportunity to enjoy daily trips and extensive traveling.

Dotty was known for her strong will and fierce sense of independence. Friends and neighbors were amazed by her capabilities. She took great pride in her home, maintaining her lawn meticulously and acknowledging each holiday with a special decoration on her door.

Dotty will be missed dearly by those who were fortunate enough to know her. Visitation is on Monday, March 4, 2019, from 4:00-6:00 at Joseph W. Sorce Funeral Home, 728 West Nyack, NY 10994. A Funeral Mass will be held at Saint Anthony’s Church, 36 W Nyack Rd, Nanuet, NY 10954 on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at 11.

30. Burial to immediately follow at St. Anthony’s Cemetery.
