Dorothy R. Derr, 56, of Tower City, passed away Friday afternoon at her home after a 14 week valiant fight with cancer. Born in Harrisburg, October 3, 1961, a daughter of the late Roger Derr, Sr. and Betty Lewis Derr. Dot was a 1979 graduate of Williams Valley High School; Harrisburg Area Community College and Penn State University.

Dot was employed with the Commonwealth of PA for over 34 years, she was currently the Director of Administrative Services with the Pennsylvania Game Commission. She was the first female director at the PA Game Commission. She was a member of the Christ United Methodist Church, Tower City where she was a former Financial Chair of Administrative Council and former Treasurer of the United Methodist Women.

She was a member and past officer of the Tower City American Legion Auxiliary; a member and past officer of the Tower City Women of the Moose. Dot’s entire life revolved around her family, friends, and career. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, spending time at the beach and trap shooting with the Orwin Gun Club.

She was very active in the Williams Valley Community, whether coaching sports, belonging to numerous community clubs and organizations or helping a friend in need. She will be deeply missed. She is survived by her companion, Greg Showers; sisters, Bonnie Ciesnolevicz, Harrisburg, Lynne Daniels, Williamstown; Melanie Silver, Harrisburg, Tonya Derr, Williamstown.

Brothers, David Derr (Deb), Tower City, Kenn Derr, Williamstown; Nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved, including her goddaughter, Alyssa Miller. She is also survived by many dear friends whom were like family to Dot. A Celebration of Dot’s life will be held on Saturday, September 29th at 11:00 am from the Christ United Methodist Church, Tower City with Pastor Annette Shutt.

A visitation will be from 9:30-11:00 at the church. Private burial will be in Methodist Cemetery, Williamstown. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the Christ United Methodist Church, Open Market Fund, 400 E. Grand Avenue, Tower City, PA 17980 or Hospice of Central PA, 1320 Lingelstown Road, Harrisburg PA 17110.
