Obituary for Douglas A Kapp Print Douglas A. Kapp 66, of Dubuque, died Sunday, February 17, 2019. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 22, 2019 at St. Peter Lutheran Church with Rev. Karla Wildberger officiating.
Burial will be in Linwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at the Egelhof, Siegert & Casper Westview Funeral Home and Crematory, 2659 JFK Rd. and from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. Friday at St. Peter Lutheran Church.
Doug was born on December 29, 1952 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Milton L. and LouAnn (Hovden) Kapp Jr. and has lived in Dubuque since 1968. He graduated from Hempstead High School in 1972 and a year later, on November 23rd, married the love of his life, Jean Sprengelmeyer at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Doug was employed at John Deere Dubuque Works for 31 years, retiring in 2003 and then went to worked at Bird Chevrolet.
He was a very active member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and volunteer work with the “Mended Heart” program at Mercy Hospital, the Iowa Literacy Council and Finley Hospital. Doug enjoyed watching movies and all kinds of cars. He especially loved detailing them out and going on long driving trips.
He is survived by his wife, Jean of Dubuque, IA; his children Jeremy (Alicia) Kapp of Dubuque, IA and Melissa (Brent) Culbertson of East Dubuque, IL; his mother Lou Ann Meyer of Dubuque, IA; his brothers Kevin (Betty Lee) Kapp Dubuque, IA and Neal (Sally) Kapp of Anaheim, CA; 6 grandchildren, Samuel and Aaron Culbertson, Blair, MaryEllen, Kiefer and Kierin Kapp; also surviving are many close in-laws and nieces and nephews. Doug was preceded in death by his father Milton; his grandparents Milton and Mellicent Kapp Sr. and his mother-in-law and father-in-law Fred and Rosella Sprengelmeyer. Memorials may be given to the Douglas A. Kapp memorial fund to establish a literacy scholarship fund.
