Douglas Wilson Daves, 74 of Padgett Road, Shelby passed away, Thursday, October 4, 2018 at Hospice at Wendover. Born October 29, 1943 in Cleveland County, he was a son of the late Buren Wilson Daves and Nell Sansing Daves. He was retired from Hoechst Celanese and was also a self-employed farmer raising cattle and crops.

He was a member of Sandy Plains Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and was a former chairman on the House and Grounds committee. Mr. Daves was a former member… Read More » of Oak Grove United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two sons, Doug and Derek Daves and a brother, Reid Daves.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Betty Blanton Daves; three sisters-in-law, Lynn Daves of Lawndale, Carolyn Turner of Cherryville and Amy Smith (Derrell) of Shelby; and numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews. Visitation will be 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM, Saturday at Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home. A funeral service will be 3:00 PM, Sunday at Sandy Plains Baptist Church with Rev.

Chase Robinson and Rev. Dale Byrd officiating. The body will be placed in the church thirty minutes before the service.

A graveside service will be 1:00 PM, Monday at Cleveland Memorial Park, Boiling Springs.
