Dr. Richard Allen Cannon, 85, passed away Saturday, January 26, 2019 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. Dick was born January 9, 1934 in Broken Bow, Nebraska to William and Floy (Hogue) Cannon. He graduated from Wymore (NE) High School in 1952.

After serving in the US Army during the Korean Conflict, Dick earned a B.S. in Math and Physics from Colorado State University and an Ed. D in Physics Education from the University of Northern Colorado. He married the former Delores Hert at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Greeley, Colorado on March 16, 1957.

They remained married for over 61 years. After teaching math and sciences at various schools in Colorado and Nebraska, Dick and his family moved to Cape Girardeau to join the Physics Department at Southeast Missouri State University in 1971. He retired as a faculty member in 2000.

Dick was an active member of Sargent’s Chapel Lutheran Church, serving on the church council and singing in the choir. He was also a proud member of the Sons of the American Revolution. Dick is survived by his loving wife Dee; daughter, Shelly (Larry) Hale of Cape Girardeau; son, Doug Cannon of Springfield, Missouri; grandchildren, Ryan, Carly and Jenna Hale of Cape Girardeau; Delaney Cannon of Springfield, Missouri; and the lights of his life, his two great-grandchildren, Wolfe and Luna.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his sisters Lois Martin & Beverly Quirk. Visitation will be Thursday, January 31, 2019 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Ford and Sons Mt. Auburn Chapel.

Funeral service will be Friday, February 1, 2019 at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Jerry Bailey officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at Sargent’s Chapel Lutheran Cemetery in Sedgewickville, Missouri. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Sargent’s Chapel Lutheran Church.
