Obituary for Dr. Robert “Bob” Stephens Jr Dr. Robert O. “Bob” Stephens, Jr. passed away peacefully on October 20, 2018 at the age of 83. After a long battle with Lewy body dementia, he died the way he lived — with grace, dignity, and surrounded by those he loved.

Bob was born in Rutledge, GA on March 30, 1935 to Robena Burnett Stephens and Robert O. Stephens, Sr He graduated from Lanier High School in Macon, then attended Moody Bible Institute, where he met his future wife, Vivian DeLacy. He completed his undergraduate education at Mercer University and received his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia.

He served as a pediatrician in the Army, including a tour in Korea, then moved to Marietta in 1970 to join Ralph Fowler and Judson Trippe in private practice. He and Dr. Trippe later founded Kenmar Pediatrics, where children from all over north Georgia were lovingly treated by Dr. Bob. He retired from private practice in 1990 and became medical director of Kennestone Hospital, then of Wellstar.

He gave freely of his time and energy, volunteering countless hours at the health department, with Boy Scout Troop 252 as Scoutmaster, and at First Presbyterian Church, where he was a longtime Sunday school teacher, elder, and served on many committees. After his retirement, he worked many hours a week as a volunteer at MUST Ministries. He always gave of himself quietly and humbly, looking for ways to serve those less fortunate and in need of care.

Bob was defined by his deep faith, his character, his commitment to doing what was right, and his strong work ethic. Those who knew him admired him. He had an unfailing moral compass, and he was a role model and inspiration to everyone who was fortunate enough to cross his path.
