Dr. Shultz Riggs III, 77, of Jackson, MS passed away November 6, 2018 after a brief illness. He was born February 10, 1941 in Owensboro, KY to Schultz Riggs Jr. and Russelle Compton Riggs, and graduated from Owensboro High School in 1959. He attended the University of Kentucky, where he earned a B.A. in Mathematics in 1962, and a Masters Degree in 1964.

He then taught math for three years at Western Kentucky University before returning to UK for his PhD. Schultz was a Professor of Mathematics at Jackson State University from 1971 to 1996, before retiring to devote the rest of his life to his studies and his many friends. He will be remembered for his kindness and generosity, and he passed away fully aware that, like ripples in a pond, his life and deeply sharing spirit would positively affect those of his friends for generations to come.

Dr. Riggs is survived by his aunt and uncle, Bobby June and Bradley Reid of Barrows, KY, and assorted cousins, as well as close friends, Denise Williams, Linda Owens, Jack Mallette, Ken Stribling, Jean Barnett, Dr. James Barksdale and others. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory. Followed by interment next of his parents in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in nearby Sorgho, KY.

Visitation is from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Dr. Riggs’ name to Hospital Ministries of Ridgeland, MS or the American Cancer Society.
