On July 2, 1938 he married Opal Dolphine Dunsmore and they made their home in Thomas. Soon after they married, he enlisted in the Army and proudly served his country in World War II.

When time allowed, E. L. loved fishing and spent every moment he could at the local lakes. Each year he enjoyed taking his family to Grand Lake where they would camp and fish for a couple of weeks. He also read many books and especially loved the Bible; he read it thru many times.
Family was most important to E. L. and he cherished the time he spent with them. He also planted a garden each year and took care of his property up until just a few months ago. He lived each day to its fullest and made the best of each opportunity.
