Roberts, 80, went to be with the Lord on February 5, 2019, in High Rolls Mountain Park, New Mexico. He was born on January 9, 1939 in Lakin, Kansas, the fifth of eight children, to Eva Irene Pearl and Clarence Waldo Emerson Roberts. Eddie was preceded in death by his parents and siblings Norman, Margaret, and Donald.

He is survived by siblings Marilyn, Jodi, Gary, and Karen. Eddie attended Pecos High School in Pecos, Texas. He married Paula Jean Morris, his high school sweetheart, in 1955.

Eddie enlisted in the United States Army, serving twenty years and retiring as a Master Sergeant in 1976. He was a Greek and Persian linguist, and received numerous awards during his military career, including The Meritorious Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster. After retiring from the Army, Eddie went to work for the U.S. Department of State where he served for twelve more years.

He had a total of thirty-two years service to our country, with thirty of those years spent overseas at the American Embassies in Mexico City, Cairo, Tehran, Athens, Manila, and Kuwait City. Eddie served as deacon in the various churches where he and his family lived, and was also a licensed minister. Eddie is survived by his wife Paula of Alamogordo; son Edison P. of El Paso, TX, daughter Tammy and husband Billy Anderson of Pensacola, FL; grandchildren Lydia, Aron, Sarah, Eddie B., Jarrod, Alexandra, Brennan, and Caitlin; numerous great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 11, 2019 with Alamogordo Funeral Home handling the arrangements. Interment with full military honors will be held at Arlington National Cemetery. Eddie served God, his country, family, and friends.

He will be greatly missed, and for his service we will forever be grateful. Contributions in his memory may be made to The American Legion, under the name Edison B. Roberts. The Roberts family has entrusted their loved one to the care of Alamogordo Funeral Home to direct the services.
