Edith O. Dennis, 86, of North Vernon, passed away at 3:01 a.m. on Saturday, March 2, 2019, at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis. A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6, 2019, at Sawyer-Pickett Funeral & Cremation Service. Rev.

Ron Walker will officiate. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will be in the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison.

Born June 22, 1932, in Putnam County, IN, Edith was the daughter of Forest and Ada (Whitlock) Johnston. She married John Dennis, Jr. on July 16, 1950. He survives.

Edith retired from Allison Transmission. She enjoyed crafts, spending time with family, nature, birdwatching and music. She is survived by her husband, John Dennis, Jr., of North Vernon; two sons, Jay Dennis of Tucson, AZ and Jim Dennis of Manhattan, KS; brother, Dallas Johnston of Forsythe, MO; Linda Martin of IN; ten grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Edith was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Jerry Dennis; and sister, Anita Gay Irwin. Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the donor’s choice of charities.
