Edward Joseph “Bud” Schwab, 89, of Washington Township, passed away on Friday, December 14, 2018 at home, surrounded by his loving family. Born November 30, 1929 in Kittanning, he was a son of the late Edward A. & Colletta (Huckestein) Schwab. Bud lived in the area all of his life, and was a graduate of Washington Township High School.

He proudly served our country with the United States Army in Japan during the Korean War. Bud worked for Allegheny Ludlum in West Leechburg… Read More » as a hot mill electrical maintenance foreman and supervisor for 35 years, retiring in 1984. During his time at Allegheny Ludlum, he taught and guided many of the apprentices.

His many memberships included the Washington Township High School Alumni Association, where he served as president for 12 years; chartered the Washington Township Little League, where he served as president and coach, and part of the group that initiated girls softball in Washington Township; participated in the senior slow pitch softball division, even making it to the World Series; and life member of the Apollo Elks #386. Bud loved to travel, and with wife Gerry, saw all 50 states and Canada. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Joel Haney; sister, Edwardine Saul; brothers-in-law, John E. Saul, Leonard (Grace) Hartman, William Hartman.

Bud is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Geraldine E. “Gerry” Schwab; daughters, Cindy M. (Stephen Douglas) Glass of Greenville, PA, Dianne R. (William Brown) Haney of Spring Church, Karen F. (Brady) Schrecongost of Dayton, PA; sons, Daniel E. (Eiko McKay) Schwab of Garden Grove, CA, Ted J. (Lisa) Schwab of Washington Township; grandchildren, Rob (Maria) Glass of Managua, Nicaragua, Julie Ann (Steve Bassett) Glass of Erie, Aaron H. Haney of Parks Township, Donnie (Jen) Schrecongost of Dayton, PA, Rion J. Haney of Edmon, Brian (Stephanie) Bittinger of New Kensington, Emiko Mae & Kimiko Faith Schwab, both of Garden Grove, CA, Ted J. Jr., Stephen M., Jim E. Schwab, all of Washington Township; great grandchildren, Eric Hays, Sydney Bassett, Gwen Nicole Glass, Isabella Rose & Christian D. Bittinger, and Anna & Ellie Schrecongost; and his sister, Mary O. Schwab of Apache Junction, AZ. A Celebration Of Life Tribute Service honoring Bud’s remarkable life will be announced at a later date. Arrangement have been entrusted to the Curran-Shaffer Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., Apollo, PA.

Memorial Contributions may be made in Bud’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, in honor of Julie Glass, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105-9959.
