EGON’s Obituary Egon Richard Tausch died on 27 July 2018 at the age of 76. From an old Texas ranching family and graduate of Texas Military Institute (1960) he received his MA from UT (Austin) then served nine years in the Regular Army, including an extended tour in the Combat Infantry in Vietnam (1st/14th, 4th Inf. Div.
), as a Platoon leader and later Company Commander, and as a Professor of American History at West Point. He then spent 30 years as an attorney in San Antonio, accepting only cases he believed in. After retirement, Egon became an artist, public speaker, social critic, debator, and writer, authoring dozens of published articles in regional and national magazines, and two books.
Egon was also a restorer of historic houses, Texas Confederate cavalry reenactor, and old-fashioned gentleman. He was an active member of the Sons of Confederate Veterans, the Beethoven Maennerchor, and the Sons of the Republic of Texas and hoped he had many friends still in them. He was a faithful member of St. Anthony the Great Orthodox Church.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Phyllis Keil Tausch; his sister Frances Clementine Tausch Hall; and his nephew Richard Roland Tausch, and niece Ruth Tausch. He had a long, full, and excellent life (but for a few years, long ago), and prayed for an infinitely better one with Our Lord. Services will be held at St. Anthony the Great Orthodox Church at 103 Carolina St. in San Antonio.
Viewing will be held on Tuesday, 31 July 2018, from 6pm- 9pm. The Funeral to be held at St. Anthony the Great Orthodox Church on Wednesday, 1 August 2018 at 9:00 am. A procession will follow to Ft.
Sam Houston National Cemetery for a 10:45am committal service. Military Honors will be rendered in recognition of his faithful service to his nation. Though flowers will be greatly appreciated by family and friends, those who wish to make donations may do so to St. Anthony the Great Orthodox Church, the Sons of Confederate Veterans, the Sons of the Republic of Texas, or the Beethoven Maennerchor.
