Obituary for Eileen (Dunlevy) Endyke Eileen P. (Dunlevy) Endyke, life-long resident of Lawrence, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, June 20, 2018, at Sutton Hill Center surrounded by her loving family. She was the loving wife of the late John J. Endyke, to whom she was married for 59 years. Eileen was beloved by all who knew her.
Eileen was born in Boston and was the devoted daughter of Francis and Eileen (Morrison) Dunlevy. She was predeceased by her brothers, Francis Dunlevy and William Dunlevy, whom she adored. She moved to Lawrence at the age of 12 and attended St. Patrick’s Grammar School and High School where she received the Gold Medal for Excellence in both schools and was her class valedictorian.
She received a scholarship to attend Boston College and graduated with highest distinction among the first women to graduate from the previously all male college. Eileen was a devoted teacher in Lawrence for over 20 years, teaching at St. Patrick’s Grammar School, the Breen School and the Kane School. Eileen was a dedicated parishioner of St. Patrick’s Church where she regularly volunteered at Cor Unum.
She was an active volunteer of the College Club, Garden Club and several other civic and charitable organizations in the Lawrence community. She had numerous hobbies among them, sewing, cooking, gardening, reading, and traveling to any beach destination but her true passions were her family, especially her grandchildren, and her many friends. Eileen was the beloved mother of Kathleen Endyke Herlihy and her husband James of Cooper City, FL, Jack Endyke and his partner Maureen McLaughlin of Derry NH, Michael Endyke and his wife Pamela of Windham, NH, Joseph Endyke and his wife Melanie Poulin of Derry NH, Thomas Endyke and his wife Debra of Litchfield, NH and Mary Beth Endyke Lisman and her husband Eric of Sudbury, MA.
She was the loving grandmother of Cara, Erica, Jennifer, Nicole, Kristen, Tyler, Eileen, Caitlin, Lee, Kyle, Dylan, Laura, Zack and Lucas and dear great-grandmother to Jack, Suleyka, Chimwemwe, Liam, Maizie, Sam, Emma, Maeve, Max, Rory, Evelyn and Lydia. She was also the cherished aunt of many nieces and nephews and treasured friend of many. Family and friends will honor and celebrate Eileen’s life by gathering for her calling hours on Sunday, June 24, 2018 from 2:00 pm until 6:00 pm at the Kenneth H. Pollard Funeral Home, 233 Lawrence Street, Methuen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 25, 2018 at 11:00 am at St. Patrick’s Church, 118 S. Broadway, Lawrence. Burial will follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in North Andover. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider a random act of kindness in Eileen’s memory.
