Obituary for Elayne “Chic” Galvin Elayne Norma “Chic” Galvin, 92, of Red Wing, died Friday, April 13, 2018, at The Gardens of Cannon Falls, surrounded by her family. She was born on October 1, 1925, in Red Wing to Bert and Norma (Schefler) Freeberg. She graduated from Red Wing Central High School in 1943.

For a number of years she worked for Red Wing Shoe Company. On March 30, 1946, she was united in marriage to Roger “Rod” Galvin. She then worked for Munson Printing until retiring in 1988.

Having been a breast cancer survivor, she was chairman of the breast cancer patient support group “Reach to Recovery” for many years. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, serving on the Altar Guild and most recently the Bible study group. For many years she had been a member of the Leo C. Peterson American Legion Post #54 Auxiliary and the Burnson-Lillyblad Post #1218 Auxiliary.

She enjoyed sewing for her daughters and granddaughters, cooking, baking and entertaining, “doing lunch” with family and friends, watching the Twins and Golf tournaments on T.V., watching eagles, sending cards and playing cards, especially bridge. Survivors include three daughters, Janet Connolly, Mary Jo Petersdorf and Kathleen (Charles) Bristol; five grandchildren, Missie (Tom) Tschida, Micky (Bob) Bendetti, Mindy Petersdorf, Megan (Brad) Buckley and Kristofor Adolph; great grandchildren, Kiley, Abby, Hattie and Elsie Buckley and Makayla and Donovan Adolph. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Rod on December 23, 2002; one sister, Marian Freeberg; one son-in-law, Michael Petersdorf and two great grandsons, Jeremy Petersdorf and Brandon Feidt.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 19, 2018, at the St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Red Wing with Reverend Dana Jackson officiating. Burial will be at the Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the service at the church.
