Obituary for Shirley E. Kennedy Shirley E. Kennedy age 86, of Pine Island died on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 at the Pine Haven Care Center. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Saturday, April 21, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Church of St. Michael in Pine Island with Father Randal Kasel celebrating the mass. Burial will be in Pine Island Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Friday, April 20, 2018 from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at the Mahn Family Funeral Home – Mahler Chapel and on Saturday for one hour prior to the mass at the church. Shirley Elaine Friese was born on July 22, 1931 in Zumbrota, MN to Edwin and Gladys (Olson) Friese. She grew up in Zumbrota and graduated from Zumbrota High School in 1949.

On March 17, 1951 she married Francis E. Kennedy at Fort Sill, OK. After his honorable discharge, they returned to Pine Island and started farming. Shirley helped on the farm and raised the children while working at Libby’s, which became Seneca Foods.

Shirley was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Red Hat Society and Charles Cowden American Legion Post Auxiliary. Shirley loved to play bingo and spend time with her family; especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Shirley is survived by her children, Trudi (Karyl) Kennedy, Theresa Zimmerman, Troy (Dawn) Kennedy, Tammy Rew and Todd (Michelle) Kennedy; grandchildren, Kevin (Bobbi Jo) Kennedy, Craig Kennedy, Courtney (Steve) McGowan, Kelly Jo Zimmerman, David (Kathy) Zimmerman, Donna (John) Johnson, Brad (Katie) Kennedy, Laura (Matt) DeWees, Jessica (Jose) Carrillo, Zach Kennedy and Gavin Kennedy; great-grandchildren, Alexis, Walker, Kylie, Bridget and Bailey Kennedy, Connor, Cooper and Owen McGowan, Nikki and Levi Zimmerman, Jenna Johnson, Ellie Godtland, Gunner and Clara Kennedy, Ryan and Milo DeWees, Maria Garcia and Jose Gutierrez; siblings, Dorothy Hermann and Duane Friese; sisters-in-law, Pat Sahr, Mary Jo Pennington and Beverly Friese and many nieces and nephews.

Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Francis E. Kennedy; parents, Edwin and Gladys Friese; brothers, Otto and Donald Friese; sons-in-law, Larry Zimmerman, Arnold Zimmerman and Russ Rew; brothers-in-law, Jim Sahr, Gerald Pennington and Gene Hermann; sister-in-law, Jerene Friese and nephew, Scott Hermann.
