Obituary for Jane K. Falls Jane Kathryn Falls Educator, mentor, mother, friend, Jane Kathryn Falls, 83, passed away peacefully on March 7, 2018, surrounded by her family and beloved sidekick, Tigger the cat, after a long struggle with congestive heart failure. Jane was born May 27, 1934, in Oak Park, Ill. , to Esther Beryl Rankin and Asa Clarence Zeigler, both of Sydney, Ill.

A 22-year resident of Red Wing, Minn. , and 29-year resident of Lake Bluff, Ill. , Jane graduated from Hillsdale College (Michigan) in 1958 with a degree in early childhood education and served as a preschool and kindergarten teacher.

She later received a Masters in guidance counseling from Western Carolina University and worked as a guidance counselor for Mundelein and Libertyville High Schools in Illinois. She retired in 1993. On May 26, 1967, Jane married David Cyril Falls in Chicago.

The two raised their family in Lake Bluff, Ill. and were active in a number of clubs and organizations. They retired to Red Wing in 1995 and became engaged in the community.

Jane served on the board of directors of the Red Wing Area Senior Center, on the auxiliary board for the Red Wing Mayo Clinic Medical Center, and as a part-time employee of the Red Wing High School as a college and career counselor. She was a consummate lover of all holidays–down to her coordinating outfits and multi-colored Keds–and could be found every summer at her favorite retreat, an island home in Minocqua, Wisc. She enjoyed playing bridge, gathering with her book club, season tickets to the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra, sunsets on her porch swing, and the many wonderful friendships she developed over the years.

She will be missed for her intelligence, warm smile, amazing sense of humor and generous spirit. Jane was preceded in death by her husband, David C. Falls. She is survived by her son, Michael (Kayla) O’Rourke of Minneapolis, Minn.
