Obituary for Charles Samuel McMillen Charles Samuel McMillen, 87, of Red Wing, died Friday, May 4, 2018, at the Red Wing Health Center. He was born on March 7, 1931, in Minneapolis to James and Olive (Landgraber) McMillen. He graduated from West High School in Minneapolis in 1949.

He then served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. Following his discharge he attended the University of Minnesota graduating in 1953. He continued his education at Brown Institute of Broadcasting.

He then worked in radio news for KGPR in Grafton, ND, KROX in Crookston, KILO in Grand Forks, KLWW in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and then came to KCUE in Red Wing in October of 1966 retiring from there in 1993. On September 17, 1960, he was united in marriage to Dawna Hagen in McIntosh, Minn. After retirement, he worked part-time positions at the YMCA and as a bailiff for Goodhue County.

He also volunteered parking cars at the hospital. He was a member of Christ Episcopal Church where he served in many capacities, including the Vestry, Men’s Bible Study, Cursillo, and sang in the choir. He was also a member of the Golden K’s Kiwanis, the Leo C. Peterson American Legion Post #54 and the Burnson Lillyblad VFW Post #1218.

He enjoyed watching TV, telling jokes, reading and visiting with people. Charles is survived by his wife Dawna; two children, Steven (Sally) McMillen of San Diego, CA and Jane (David) Thelen of Andover, MN; five grandchildren, Nathan, Rebecca, and Erica Thelen, and Rane and Shea McMillen; and his nieces and nephews. Charles was preceded in death by his brother James and his parents.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. on Friday, May 11, 2018 at Christ Episcopal Church in Red Wing. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel and at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at a later date at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
