Obituary for Gertrude Arlene Nellis Gertrude Arlene Nellis, 82, of Red Wing, formerly of Minneapolis, died Sunday, April 29, 2018 at her home. She was born September 10, 1935 to George and Gertude (Stucky) McCutcheon. She grew up in New Ulm before moving to Minneapolis in 1942.

She graduated from John Marshall High School in 1953 and went on to earn a BA in Library Sciences from the University of Minnesota. On September 2, 1961 she married Howard Nellis in Prospect Park in Minneapolis. In 1968, she earned her masters degree.

She worked at the Hennepin County Library until her son was born. She then volunteered at the Minneapolis Public Library until she had to care for her aging parents. She moved to Red Wing in 2015.

Gertrude enjoyed animals and birds. She donated to the humane society and other charitable organizations concerned with the wellbeing of animals. She is survived by her son Timothy Nellis, of Red Wing.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Howard and her parents. Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Monday, May 7, 2018 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel in Red Wing with Father Tristan English officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be at the Oronoco Cemetery. Memorial are preferred to McCutcheon Family Scholarship Fund through the University of Minnesota, foundation fund number 6636. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.
