Obituary for Bea Vera “Bea” M. Friary age 96, of Pine Island died on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at the Pine Haven Care Center. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Saturday, May 5, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Church of St. Michael in Pine Island with Father Randal Kasel celebrating the mass. Burial will be in Pine Island Cemetery.
Visitation will be on Saturday for one hour before mass. Arrangements were made with Mahn Family Funeral Home – Mahler Chapel. Vera “Bea” Mae McCarty was born on July 21, 1921 in Red Wing, MN.
She was raised by her grandmother, Dora Rehling and graduated from Pine Island High School in 1939. After high school Bea babysat for local families, before marrying Bernard “Bud” Friary on June 19, 1942 at Church of St. Michael in Pine Island. They lived in rural Pine Island for five years before making their home in town, where they raised their two sons.
Bea worked as a bookkeeper for Bud’s oil company C & B Pure Oil Co She retired when they sold the business in 1970. In their retirement they traveled to TX every winter, enjoyed playing cards with friends and loved spending time with their family.
Bea was a life-long member of Church of St. Michael and was a member of Pine Island Senior Citizens. Bea enjoyed needlepoint, collecting beanie babies and her grandchildren’s art work, doing crafts, hosting and decorating for the holidays, and especially spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bea is survived by her sons, Dale (Janet) Friary of Rochester and Bill (Romelle) Friary of Pine Island; five grandchildren, Sheila (Darin) Yamasaki, Kelly (Jason) Arvidson, Katrine (Tony Frank) Friary, Wanda (Sean) Harkins, and Mike (Karen) Friary; and six great-grandchildren, Alex, Catherine and Lauren Arvidson, and Cailin, Andrew, and Madeline Friary.
Bea was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bud Friary. Memorials are preferred to Pine Haven Care Center or Church of St. Michael in Pine Island. Condolences may be left for the family online at www.
