Obituary for Irene Marie Bergmark Irene Marie Bergmark, 92, of Red Wing, died Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at the Plum City Care Center. She was born May 20, 1926 in Arkansaw, Wisc. to John and Georgena (Bignell) Thompson.

She attended grade school in Arkansaw and Elmwood before attending Arkansaw High School. On November 19, 1945 she married Alvin Bergmark in Pepin Wisc. The couple farmed on Big Hill, Pepin for 11 years before moving to Red Wing in 1956.

Irene worked for 11 years at Red Wing, Industries and then as child care help for her neighbors. She was a member of United Lutheran Church in Red Wing and held an honorary membership with the Pocahontas Club. Irene enjoyed dancing and going to the lake on the weekends where she and Alvin kept a trailer home.

She loved flowers and taking care of her garden. She also took pride in cooking, baking and canning for her family. She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Alvin; daughter, Dona (Robert) Ulrich; four grandchildren, Georgina (Dave) McDonald, Jensine (Neil) Cole, Renee (Justin) Kaeding and Jeffrey (Jamie) Ulrich; two-step-granddaughters, Doreen (Randy) L’Allier and Karen (Wes) McGuff; great-grandchildren, Shelly and Darrel Jerome “D.J.” Cole, Gladys and Lydia Kaeding; great-step-grandson, Kole Nickell; daughter-in-law, Miriam Duepner; two sisers-in-law, Kathyrn and Joyce Thompson and many nieces and nephews, other family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her son, Jerome “Jerry” Bergmark; three brothers, Raymond, Royal and Norman Thompson; sister-in-law, Vanetta Thompson and her parents. Funeral service will be 11 a.m., Monday June 25, 2018 at the Mahn Family Funeral Home, Bodelson-Mahn Chapel, Red Wing with Reverend Karl Rydholm officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.
