Eleanor Boes, 93 of Carroll, died Wednesday, December 5, 2018 at St. Anthony Nursing Home in Carroll. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Monday, December 10, 2018 at St. John Paul II Parish – Holy Spirit Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr.
Clair Boes. Con-Celebrant and Homilist will be Fr. Kevin Richter.
Music will be by Dr. Franklyn Busby, Pastoral Musician and the Holy Spirit Resurrection Choir. Mass servers will be: Nathan Fuchs, Hannah Irlbeck and Ethan Irlbeck. Lectors for the funeral mass will be: Sue Boes, Laurie Whicher, and Rick Boes.
Gift Bearers will be Eleanor’s Granddaughters. Eucharistic Ministers will be: Rick Boes and Sue Boes. Casket Bearers will be Eleanor’s Grandsons.
The Carroll Catholic Daughters of the Americas will form an honor guard for the funeral mass. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Carroll.
Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 2 p.m. on Sunday where there will be a Carroll Catholic Daughters of the Americas Rosary at 3 p.m. followed by a 3rd Order Secular Franciscan Prayer Service. There will be a Christian Wake Service held at 5 p.m. The casket will be moved to Holy Spirit Church on Monday morning where additional visitation will be held from 9:30-10:15 a.m. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll and online condolences may be left for the Boes family at www. sharpfuneral.com.
Born on December 9, 1924 at Carroll, Iowa, Eleanor was the daughter of Alois John and Anna Eleanor (Baumhover) Wiederin. She attended St. Lawrence Grade School and later graduated from Churdan High School. Following her high school education, Eleanor received her nursing degree from St. Anthony’s School of Nursing.
On April 23, 1947, she was united in marriage to Cletus Boes at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Churdan. Following their marriage the couple made their home in Breda for a brief time before moving to the Carroll community. Eleanor was employed at St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll where she held the positions of Charge Nurse, House Supervisor, and also assisted with surgeries.
She later worked for the Iowa Department of Inspections and Appeals where she did nursing home inspections until her retirement. In retirement, Eleanor was active volunteering with Wauconda Prayer House, Carroll Community of Concern, St. Anthony Nursing Home as well as various other volunteer groups. For her volunteer service, she received the Presidential and the Governor’s Volunteer Awards.
Eleanor was a longtime parishioner at Holy Spirit Church in Carroll where she served in many capacities. She was a member of the Carroll Catholic Daughters of the Americas, 3rd Order Secular Franciscan, RSVP, Holy Spirit Quilters, St. Anthony Nurses Alumni Association and a former member of the St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary. Eleanor is survived by her children: Nancy (Allen) Pudenz of Carroll, Rick (Jane) Boes of Carroll, Ron (Lydia) Boes of Carroll, Terry (Susan) Boes of Carroll, Steve (Marilyn) Boes of Elk Grove, IL, Laurie (Tim) Whicher of Port Townsend, WA, and Tony (Lisa) Boes of Ankeny; 19 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; her sisters: Wilma Schachtner of Somerset, WI and Alvina McAnany of Omaha; her brother, Ron (Donna) Wiederin of Somerset, WI; her sister-in-laws, Rosemary Wiederin of Sioux City, Jean Wiederin of Churdan, and Phyllis Wiederin of Churdan, Ceal Boes of Carroll; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives.
Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Cletus Boes; her daughter-in-law, Marsha Boes; and her siblings: Mary Ann Sak, Lois Lynch, John Wiederin, Marty Wiederin, Wilbur Wiederin, and three siblings in infancy.
