Leroy “Doc” Steinkamp, 66 of Breda, died Sunday, December 9, 2018 at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll following a brief battle with cancer. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 2 p.m., Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church in Breda. The Celebrant will be Fr.

Gary Snyder. Mass Server will be Doc’s brother, Tom Steinkamp. Music for the funeral mass will be by Marilyn Hundling and the St. Bernard’s Choir.

Lecter and Eucharistic Minister will be Leonard Snyder. Honorary Casket Bearers and Casket Bearers will be Doc’s nephews: Doug Steinkamp, Chase Steinkamp, Ben Steinkamp, Jeff Steinkamp, Wes Bierl, Andrew Steinkamp, Eric Steinkamp, Matt Bierl, Jon Steinkamp, Ryan Steinkamp, Joe Steinkamp and Mitchell Dettbarn. Friends may call at St. Bernard’s Church in Breda after 4 p.m. on Tuesday where there will be a Christian Wake Service at 7 p.m. Additional visitation will be from 12:30-1:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the Sharp Funeral Home in Breda.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Sharp Funeral Home in Breda and online condolences may be left for Doc’s family at www. sharpfuneral.com. Born on November 27, 1952 at Carroll, Iowa, LeRoy “Doc” Steinkamp was the son of Leonard and Lynette (Schultes) Steinkamp.

Doc spent his entire lifetime in the Breda community and graduated from St. Bernard’s High School in 1970. Following his schooling he was employed at the Breda Veterinarian Clinic for 17 years and later went to work for Pella Corporation in Carroll. For the past 25 years Doc was employed at Toyne Inc. in Breda.

Doc coached slow pitch for the Breda Zekers, enjoyed golfing, and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs fan. He enjoyed socializing with family and friends at Zeke’s, Red’s and the Breda Golf Course. Doc had an enthusiastic personality that truly was a joy be around.

He was a member of St. Bernard’s Church in Breda. Doc is survived by his siblings: Jim Steinkamp of Carroll, Dick (Jan) Steinkamp of Carroll, Alyce (Leon) Bierl of Arcadia, Tom Steinkamp of Ankeny, Mike (Lori) Steinkamp of Breda, Mary (Larry) Dettbarn of Carroll, Dale (Phyllis) Steinkamp of Breda, and Dean (Dana) Steinkamp of Creston; a special aunt, Janet Snyder of Carroll; as well as many nieces, nephews, other extended relatives and many friends. Doc was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters-in-law, Laurie Steinkamp and Faith Steinkamp; his niece, Tessa Steinkamp; his nephews: Adam Steinkamp and Scott Steinkamp; and a brother in infancy, Jerry Steinkamp.
