Houghton/Chassell Eleanor C. Sauvola, 79, a resident of Houghton and former Chassell resident, passed away Thursday, January 3, 2019, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 28, 1939, in Chassell, a daughter of the late Lawrence and Cecilia (Beauchamp) Colombe. On September 6, 1958, she was united in marriage to Ronald H. Sauvola.

The couple resided in Chicago for a short time and then returned to Chassell to raise their family. Ronald passed away May 6, 1995. Eleanor attended the Houghton Schools and graduated from Suomi College with a degree in Social Work.

She had worked for many years as a Nurse’s Aide for Portage View Hospital and later provided shelter in her home for abused and neglected children. Six to thirteen small children and teens would be in the house at any given time. She is preceded in death by her husband Ronald, her grandson Louis, her parents, her stepfather Walter Colombe, her brother Lawrence “Duffy” Colombe and her sisters Mary Nelson and Kathryn Sauvola.

Surviving are her Daughters; Viki (Jack) DeMars of Champion, MI Ronda (Mark) Metor of Escanaba, MI Hope (Ron) Beilfuss of Batavia, IL Julie (Curt) Judson of Chassell, MI Her grandchildren; Shanna (Frank) Cherubini Travis (Jennifer) Rothenberger Niles (Jessica Giddings) Rothenberger Amber (Jason Jutinen) Menara Samantha (Tyler) Monette Paige (Jay) Little Haley Beilfuss Bradley Beilfuss 21 great-grandchildren Her brothers and sisters; Rita (Gerald) O’Connell of Dodgeville Bill Colombe of Fairmont, MI Dorothy (Ray) Aho of Tapiola Richard (MaryEllen) Colombe of Chassell Ann Heckel of Lake Linden Angie (Mel) Lyttinen of Tapiola Genny (Ron) Kyro of Tapiola John Colombe of Chassell Pauline Pietila of L’Anse Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins Eleanor lived a rich and full life as a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister. She will be missed by the many family, foster children and friends whose lives she has touched. A memorial service in honor of Eleanor’s life will be held 1 pm Saturday, January 5, 2019, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chassell with Rev.

Soren Schmidt officiating. Burial will take place later this spring in the Chassell Cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday, January 5, 2019, from 11 am until time of services at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chassell.
