Eleanor K. Schafer TRAVERSE CITY – Eleanor K. Schafer, age 84, of Traverse City went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, March 25, 2019 at her home in the loving care of her family. Eleanor was born on April 26, 1934 to Sample and Marvel (Mahan) Kennedy in Mars, Pennsylvania. On June 16, 1956, Eleanor married David Schafer in Mars, Pennsylvania.

In 1959, she and David moved to Traverse City where they raised their family. They have been enjoying the beauty of Northern Michigan for all these years. Eleanor is survived by her husband, David; daughters; Debra (Jeffery) Fromholz, Grandville, MI; Denise (Duke) Vanderbosch, Dorr, MI; D’Anne (Duane) Proehl, Traverse City, MI; son, Douglas (Laura) Schafer, Laguna Hills, CA; grandchildren: Emma, Caitlyn, Elizabeth, Madalon, Lucas, David, Daniel, Nehemiah, Cameron, Levi; and her sister, Doris Keefer.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents; sister, June Kennedy; brother, Darwin Kennedy; and grandson, Andrew Vanderbosch. Eleanor and David are members of Redeemer Presbyterian Church where a Celebration of Eleanor’s life will take place at 11:00 am on Wednesday, March 27, 2019 with a visitation one hour prior to the service. A luncheon will be held immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.

Eleanor will be laid to rest at the Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to Redeemer Presbyterian Church, 402 W Ninth Street, Traverse City, MI 49684 or Heartland Hospice, 4020 Copper View #113, Traverse City, MI 49684.
