Rhinebeck- Elfrieda “Effie” Eichin, 87, a long time resident of Rhinebeck, passed away on Monday October 1, 2018. Born in Bronx, NY on September 15, 1931, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Maria (Gass) Griebel. On September 6, 1952, she married Stanley F. Eichin.

Mr. Eichin passed away in 1970. Effie was well known for her beautiful brick house on Chestnut Street. She was devoted to the decoration and maintenance of her home and gardens.

Her home was featured on the Rhinebeck House & Garden Tours. She enjoyed living in the village and took daily walks there. Effie taught kindergarten while raising her children and later worked for many years at Rhinebeck Savings Bank where she retired as an Assistant Branch Manager.

Mrs. Eichin is survived by her children, Paul Eichin of Elizaville and Barbara Eichin of Barrytown as well her grandchildren Zachary, Ian, Laura, and Emily. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son John Eichin and her brother Alphonse Griebel. Calling hours will be held at the Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home, 51 West Market Street, Rhinebeck, on Wednesday October 3, 2018 from 4 to 7 PM.

Prayers will be offered during calling hours. Burial will be private at the Elizaville Methodist Cemetery where she will be laid to rest next to her husband Stanley. Memorial donations in honor of Mrs. Eichin can be made to Us Against Alzheimer’s.
