Obituary for Elizabeth (Betty) Spence Castle Huggins Elizabeth (Betty) Spence Castle Huggins, age 76 of Hendersonville, passed away on September 17, 2018. Betty grew up in the Madison / Hendersonville area with her 5 siblings. She was a cheerleader and basketball player for HHS, where she was voted ‘Most Athletic’.

During this time, she started dating her future husband, Jerry Huggins. They graduated in 1960 and married in 1962. She went to work at Third National Bank just out of school, followed by Security Federal and ultimately Regions Bank, where she spent 40 years as Loan Processor and Branch Manager at multiple locations.

During her career, she was the first female to be named Senior Vice President, at Corporate, as an Operations Manager. Betty loved life and spending time with her friends and family. She and Jerry created a life playing tennis, going to swim meets, being in multiple Bridge groups, as active members of the Poe Williams Sunday School Class, loved traveling, and their infamous Friday Night Dinner Group.

She also loved her bowling and TPAC groups. More recently, she spent endless hours watching soccer, dance recitals, and baseball games of her grandchildren. They were the true light of her life.

We will miss her joyful spirit and laughter. Betty is preceded in death by her parents, William and Sara Castle. She is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Jerry Huggins; her daughters, Julie Leath (Dwayne) and Laurie O’Brien (Todd); grandchildren, Jordan and Loren Leath, Sam and Luke O’Brien; her siblings, Joanne Munroe, Kitty Gaskins, Carolyn Lawrence (Jim), Judy Kempf, and Bill Castle (Shelley); Jerry’s 4 siblings and their spouses; and 20 nieces and nephews.

Her Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, September 22, at 1:00pm at Hendersonville First United Methodist Church with Rev. Don Hutchinson officiating. Interment will follow at Hendersonville Memory Gardens.

Pallbearers will include Tommy McDuffie, Charles McKinnis, Robert Black, Earl Bass, Dwayne Leath, Todd O’Brien, Jack Munroe Craig Hayes, Randy Huggins and Brian Huggins. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Poe Williams Sunday School Class and the Friday Night Dinner Club. There will be a Reception after the Interment Service at the family’s residence.
