Obituary for Ella Beatrice Best Funeral services for Ella Beatrice Best, 97, of Frankfort will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday at LeCompte Johnson Taylor Funeral Home with Rev. Brad Hockensmith officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be 12:00 p.m. Thursday until service time. Mrs. Best died on Sunday afternoon at her daughter’s residence in Shelbyville. A native of Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late Annie Sea and Warren Madison Melear.
Ella retired from the Kentucky State Government as Director of Food Distribution in the Department of Agriculture in 1988. She was very active in Evergreen Baptist Church having served in leadership positions in both youth and adult programs, and as one of the coordinators of volunteers for the Soup Kitchen. Mrs. Best travelled extensively, loved gardening, watching birds and cooking for family and friends.
Ella was preceded in death by her husband, Ira Best; sisters, Sadie Brown, Ethel Hill, Irene Simpson, Marjorie Sparrow, Catherine Washburn; and brother, Ellis Melear. She is survived by her daughter, Beverly (James) Henson, of Shelbyville, and two grandchildren, Matthew Henson and Rachel Henson. Pallbearers will be Ed Brown, Rick Moores, Matthew Henson, Jim Henson, Herbert Stucker, and Mike Stucker.
