Ellen Esther (Parish) Emptage of Upper Sandusky died at 6:45 p.m. Thursday, January 10, 2019, at the Wyandot County Rehabilitation Center after a short illness. She was 98 years old. Ellen, the daughter of Pearl and Mabel (Bryant) Parish, was born in Marseilles Township on January 19, 1920.

She graduated from LaRue High School in 1938 and married Richard Emptage on October 5, 1940, in Covington, KY. Ellen with her husband farmed outside of Marseilles and then ran the Marseilles IGA grocery store for 14 years. Later she worked as an administrative assistant for the Wyandot County Mental Health Department.

Ellen also sold Avon for over 48 years. She enjoyed her family, gardening, traveling and baking, especially pies. Ellen was a life member of the Marseilles United Methodist Church and 50 year member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Marseilles.

She was preceded in death by her husband Richard of 56 years and 5 brothers, Leon, Lenole, Dale, Norton and Aaron Parish and 2 sisters, Dolores Maxon and Maxine Lee and her son-in-law Steve Rosenthal. She is survived by four children, Ronald Emptage (Linda) of Plain City, Caroline Moore (Duane) of McComb, Mark Emptage (Becky) of Wilmington, DE, and Melanie Rosenthal of Upper Sandusky. She also is survived by 10 grandchildren, Ronda (Keith) Shafer, Tron (Ruth) Emptage, Todd (Katie) Emptage, Tad Emptage, Matthew (Laura) Moore, Nathan (Hillary) Moore, Ryan (Jamie) Emptage, Tyler Emptage, Daniel (Colleen) Clark, and Jennifer Davis.

She also is survived by 12 great-grandchildren, Austin and Drake Shafer, Zachery and Anna Emptage, Joshua and Jacob Emptage, Maggie Moore, Desi (Dalton) Pearson , Andrew and Emily Clark, Kyra Spillane, Savannah Wicker and 1 great-great grandchild James Schaffer. Funeral services for Ellen E. Emptage will be held at 1:00pm Friday, January 18, 2019 at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home, with Rev. Ronald Emptage officiating.

Visitations will be held on Thursday, January 17, from 4:00pm to 7:00pm at the Lucas-Batton Funeral Home in Upper Sandusky. Memorial contributions may be made to the Marseilles United Methodist Church or the Wyandot County Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center Activities Fund, and both can be sent to Lucas-Batton, 476 S. Sandusky Ave. Upper Sandusky, Ohio, 43351.
