Obituary of Ellen Brackman Ellen K. Brackman, 61, of Painted Post, NY, died on February 19, 2019 because of complications from illness. Ellen was born in Corning, NY on April 19, 1957. She attended Corning-Painted Post West High School and went on to Alfred University where she graduated with a ceramic engineering degree.

Ellen accepted an internship with Corning Glass Works in May of 1978 which would be the catalyst of her long and successful career with Corning. Her tenure was from December of 1979 to her retirement on April 21, 2017 as an engineering associate. She had multiple patents with Corning.

Always quick with a smile, Ellen knew no strangers and was never one to sit still. Her love for travel included many destinations. However, the Caribbean was her most coveted place where she was loved by so many.

For years, Ellen’s summer home away from home was Keuka lake. Her energy, enthusiasm, and love for life were felt by everyone that had the good fortune of meeting her. It is clear she loved animals being quick to rescue many.

As a sign of her joyous and celebratory spirit, Ellen surrounded herself with family and friends for any occasion big or small. Even in death, Ellen continues to spread her unselfish kindness by asking in lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Fingerlakes SPCA, 72 Cameron St, Bath, NY 14810. She is preceded in death by her maternal and paternal grandparents, her mother, Elizabeth (Liz) Brackman, her father, Milton Brackman, her paternal aunt, Jane Burgess, her maternal aunt, Marian Smith along with numerous aunts and uncles.

She is survived by her loving family, sister: Nancy (Brackman) Wood of Savona, NY; nieces and nephews: Kelly and Adam Weldy of York, NY, Rick Wood of Savona, NY, Sam Wood of Savona, NY; a great niece: Haliegh of York, NY; uncle: Gordon Burgess of CT; aunt: Miriam Smith of FL, along with many cousins. There will be a celebration of life to honor Ellen at a later date.
