Obituary of Sylvia Baldini Sylvia J. Baldini, age 98, of Corning, NY died Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at Guthrie Corning Hospital. Sylvia was born on October 22, 1920 in Williamsport, PA to Giuseppe and Maria Rosaria (Imbriaco) Meconi. She graduated from Williamsport High School and moved to Corning when she was 18 years old.

Sylvia worked for Corning Glass Works until she married John Baldini on February 16, 1946 in Corning and then became a housewife and mother to five. After her children were older, she worked at The Knoll with food preparations for events held there. John predeceased her in 2011.

Faith, family and service were important to Sylvia. She was involved in many parish activities, which included working many years to make St. Mary’s Church shine by caring for altar cloths and cleaning and polishing. She loved to cook, and many family gatherings occurred around the table.

Sylvia was also a great baker, making wedding cakes for family and friends. She volunteered for Corning Meals on Wheels from its beginnings until she turned 90. She was also a long-time volunteer for Corning Community Food Pantry.

Sylvia’s favorite hobby was knitting baby blankets for the hospital and prayer shawls for the parish. Sylvia was a member of Christian Daughters and the Italian-American Women’s Lodge. Her survivors include her sons, John (Patricia) Baldini, Jr. and Joseph (Elizabeth) Baldini, all of Silver Spring, MD; daughters, Bernadette Baldini of Corning, Carmela (Steve) Bertron of Hornby, and Mary (Leonard) Bell of Parma Heights, OH; brother, Pat Meconi of Wilmington, DE; sister, Delphine Pierri of Montour Falls; grandchildren, Jennifer Bertron, Marco (Michelle) Bertron, Alonzo Bertron, Christa Milhouse (Andre Barnes, fiance), Alyssa (Kris) Danchuk, Casey Bell (Clarence Scott, fiancé) Vincent Bell, Christine Baldini (William Fortin, fiancé), Brian (Jessica) Baldini, Cara and Gina Baldini; great granddaughter, Natasha Danchuk; several nieces and nephews.

Sylvia was predeceased by sisters, Johanna Casale, Mary Devereaux and brothers, Domenick, Rocco, and Toselle. The family extends special thanks to Sharon Cutler and staff on 2 West at Guthrie Corning Hospital for their care and compassion. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, February 17th from 2 – 5 PM at Haughey Funeral Home, Inc., 216 E. First Street in Corning.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, February 18th at 10:00 AM at St. Mary’s Church, 155 State Street in Corning, with Father Lewis Brown officiating. Memorial donations may be made in Sylvia’s memory to Corning Meals On Wheels, Corning Community Food Pantry, or to All Saints Parish.
