Obituary for Elsie Joseph Elsie Kekely Joseph passed away peacefully in her sleep on May 6, 2018 at the age of 84. She was the daughter of Stephen Kekely and Isadora Redmond Kekely, and faithful and dedicated wife of Harry Carson Joseph of Fayette City. Harry died on May 9, 2016.
Elsie was born in Brownsville and lived much of her life in Charleroi, Belle Vernon and Fayette City. She graduated from Brownsville High School where she met the love of her life, Harry, whom she married in 1957 and with whom she spent 61 wonderful years. Elsie graduated from Brownsville High School where she was a member of the band and a majorette.
She went on to graduate from nursing school in Washington, PA. She worked as a registered nurse at Charleroi-Monessen Hospital and served as charge nurse and eventually head nurse at the hospital. She also served at Mon Valley Hospital and the Health Center in Monessen.
She and Harry did everything together. Early in their marriage they would travel to Daytona Beach for vacations. There she became a NASCAR fan and attended many Daytona 500 races and races in Charlotte, NC.
She was an avid golfer and for several years caddied for Harry at the Walt Disney World Classic. She loved Disney World and would take many of her “adopted” nieces and nephews to the parks. They were also members of the Donegal Golf Club.
Elsie and Harry were avid Nittany Lion football fans and held season tickets for many years. Normally calm and unruffled, she would scream at the top of her lungs for her beloved Nittany Lions. Elsie was active in many churches including Rehobeth Presbyterian Church, Belle Vernon Methodist and Little Redstone Presbyterian Church.
She often would accompany Harry on the piano when he sang. She was preceded in death by her husband Harry, her father Stephen Kekely, her mother Isadora Redmond Kekely and her nephew Harry. She is survived by her sisters Helen Jean Harvey, Brownsville and Barbara Richards, Centerville, VA, nieces and nephews Shawn Nowakowski, Maxwell, PA, Miriam Novakowski, Drew Richards, Julie Carnathan of Brownsville, PA, Apryl Viale of Centerville, VA, Sylvester “Spanky” Richards of Fairfax, VA, cousin Ruth Ann Kudlac, Blainsburg, PA, niece Christy Nitschke of Winchester, TN, her sisters-in-law Ann Cochran, Dade City Florida, and Claire Joseph, Charlotte, NC and brother-in-law, Frank D. Joseph of Cornelius, NC A memorial service will be held at LaFayette Memorial Park Chapel, Briar Hill, PA on Friday, July 13, 2018 at 10:00 AM.
