Obituary for Mrs. Elvira T. (Rintrona) Florentino UTICA – Mrs. Elvira T. (Rintrona) Florentino, age 88, went to join those who went before her when she passed away on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 with the ones she loved most in her heart. Born in Utica on June 3, 1929, Elvira was the daughter of the late Louis D. and Theresa (Motto) Rintrona. She attended T.R. Proctor High School.
On May 6, 1950 she married Andrew “Andy” Florentino, Jr. with whom she shared 67 years. They complemented one another in their marriage and Elvira was a good caregiver to Andy in the later years of their lives, until his passing on November 8, 2012. Elvira was a hard worker from a young age at Rintrona’s Bakery on Bleecker St., a family business established by her parents.
Indeed, Rintrona’s was the quintessential, classic, small scale business that had the biggest success in baking the best loaf of Italian bread from 1908 until a few years ago. She was dependable at work and also at home as a loving, thoughtful matriarch. She was a proud, wise woman and a caregiver by nature.
She was a protective mom blessed with a daughter who loved her, and a wonderful grandmother with grandkids who knew her soft heart and tender ways. She also loved her siblings and stayed close to her nieces and nephews. She was a great cook and upheld family traditions of the holidays, especially the feast of Christmas Eve.
During her spare time, she enjoyed bowling in a league and Bingo at all the local halls. She looked forward to their annual family vacation to 1,000 Islands and Florida to visit with family. Elvira was a parishioner of St. Agnes Church and continued as a communicant of the combined St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church.
She was mindful of others and would pray for the well-being of all those in need. Elvira is survived by her daughter, Marguerite A. Ventura; her grandchildren, Jamie Ventura, Andrea and Anthony Faccioli, Erica Ventura, Amanda Ventura, and their father, Romolo Ventura; and her great-grandchildren, Santino Faccioli; Jovanni, and London Holmes. She also leaves many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, in-laws, Joan Zegarelli, and Alfred and Paula Florentino; and her longtime friends including Theresa DiMeo, Rose Pensiero, and her caregiver and good friend, Judy Morales.
She was predeceased by her brothers and sisters-in-law, Clement L. and Doris Rintrona, Rocco Sr. and Lena Rintrona, Louis D. Jr. and Vincenza “Chancey” Rintrona, and Albert and Gloria Rintrona; sisters and brothers-in-law, Rose and Paul Cozza, and Aurora and Joseph Mangano; and in-laws, Mary and Anthony Brescia, Elizabeth and Louie Fierro, Paul and Yvonne Florentino, and Joseph Zegarelli. The family is grateful to the staffs of Barton East and Clark North at the St. Luke’s Home, caregivers who tended to Elvira with regard and respect; and Dr. Naji El-Khoury who compassionately watched over her. Visitation will be held Monday from 1:00-3:00 at the Eannace Funeral Home, Inc., 932 South St., corner of Hammond Ave.
Elvira’s funeral service and Celebration of Life will commence on Monday afternoon at 4:00 at St. Anthony & St. Agnes Church where her Mass of Christian Burial will be offered by Rev. Mark Kaminski. Interment will take place in Calvary Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
