Obituary for Elwin E Sagraves Elwin E. Sagraves, 88, of Springfield, Ohio, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, March 13, 2018, at his home surrounded by family, at peace and unafraid. He was born October 26, 1929, in Flat Gap, Kentucky, the son of the late Ashley W. Sagraves and Addie M. (Evans) Sagraves. On March 18,1953, Elwin married the love of his life, Willa Jean (Ferguson) Sagraves.
In addition to his wife of nearly 65 years, he is survived by a daughter, Beverly (Michael) McConnell, Bethesda, Ohio, a daughter-in-law, Rhonda Sagraves, South Vienna; grandchildren, Benjamin (Libby) Sagraves, Brian Sagraves (Stephanie Nicholl, Noah, Caden , Gavin), Joshua (Elizabeth) Collins, Laura (Dustin) Marinucci, and Abby (Marcus) Stenger; great grandchildren, Lilly and Greyson Sagraves, Willa and Elias Collins, Lyra, Luca, and Ihly Marinucci; a brother, Dallas Sagraves , Flat Gap, Kentucky; a sister-in-law, Maxine Sagraves, Lexington, Kentucky; numerous nieces and nephews, and “adopted” daughter, Julie Zuefle. In addition to his his parents, Elwin was preceded in death by his son, Gregory Sagraves (2009), a sister, Delores Blair (2010), and three brothers, Elmo Sagraves (1981), Woodrow Sagraves (2004), and Ellis Sagraves (2014). He was a proud Army veteran of the Korean Conflict.
Elwin was converted March 7, 1974. Following baptism, he joined Straight Creek Enterprise Baptist Church serving as a deacon and trustee for over forty hears. He retired from Navistar/International in 1987.
Elwin loved to be outside, whether it was building his own home and vacation home, taking the great grandchildren for rides on his mower, gardening, or filling his numerous bird feeders . As his sight and hearing diminished, he and his wife enjoyed sitting on the front porch, attending church, or being entertained by the great grandchildren. Our loss is Heaven’s gain.
Elwin will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Visitation will be Friday, March 16, from 5 – 8 PM and funeral services will be held Saturday, March 17, at 10 AM , with Pastor Henry Ward officiating. The location of visitation and services will be Harmony Missionary Baptist Church, 2808 Derr Rd.
