Obituary for Elzie Phillips Mrs. Elzie Brock Phillips, “Munner”, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on September 4, 2018. Born in Greenville, to Lillie Mae Fletcher and Raymond Brock, she was a member of Lee Road United Methodist Church. In 1942, Elzie married the late Rev.
Henry Jackson (Jack) Phillips, the love of her life. They were married for over fifty-eight years, and Elzie dedicated her life to Jack and his ministry for over forty-eight years. She was involved in each church Jack pastored, by singing in the choir, being a member of the United Methodist Women, helping with Bible School, and preparing food for different occasions.
Mrs. Phillips was also a volunteer for Meals on Wheels for fourteen years. Mrs. Phillips fought a valiant battle with Alzheimer’s disease for many years. She never complained, never lost her zest for life, or her sense of humor.
She will be truly missed by her loving and devoted family. Mrs. Phillips is survived by her daughters, Janet Phillips Martin, and Shirley Phillips; her grandchildren, whom she adored, Angela Martin Ramp (Sam) of Iwakuni, Japan, and Jack Martin (Amy) of Greenville; great-grandsons, Jackson Ramp, Taylor Ramp, Henry Martin and Connor Martin and a special sister-in-law, Mrs. Betty Phillips Wood. She was predeceased by sisters, Mildred Chapman and Betty Kay; brothers, Charles Brock and Wallace Brock.
She is the last surviving member of her immediate family. Elzie’s family would like to express their sincere appreciation their Aunt, Mrs. Betty Phillips Wood, for he love and devotion to their dear Mother. Her many visits meant the world to Mother, and brightened many of her days.
We would also like to thank the staff and caregivers at Southern Oaks Assisted Living, Agape Hospice, and Janet Bagwell for the excellent care provided, kindness and love shown to Mother during her illness. A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Phillips will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, September 7, 2018 at The Wood Mortuary, Greer, SC, conducted by Dr. Gareth Scott. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
