She was born on August 04, 1928 in Seminole, Oklahoma to Rex and Minnie (Holden) Carpenter. Services will be held on Saturday March 16, 2019 at 10:00 AM in the Joe E. Jones Chapel at the Childress Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Friday March 15, 2019 from 6:30 PM to 7:30 PM at Johnson Funeral Home. Gene moved to Childress in 1946 and began her first job as a secretary for Mr. Pennell. She and Willard married August 17, 1947.

Gene worked at the Car View Drive Inn Theater and the Palace Theater. Her hobbies were crocheting hand towels and sewing. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Willard, 1 grandson Steve Pickle, 2 sisters Lucille Wheeler and Pearl Wilder and 1 son-in-law Johnny Pickle.

Gene is survived by 1 daughter Teresa Pickle, 2 sons Keith Gray and wife Johnna and James Gray and wife Sheri, 1 niece Irene Haga and husband Gerald, 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grand children. Memorial donations can be made to We Can Care or Meals on Wheels.
