Athens – Erick Preston Byrd, 69, of Watkinsville formerly of Tifton, died Monday, January 7, 2019 at Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center. Mass services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, January 11,2019 at Our Divine Saviour Catholic Church with Father Peter Oyenugba and Deacon J. Brian Bergeron officiating. The Rosary will be held at the Chapel of Albritton Funeral Directors on Thursday evening 6:00 – 6:30 P.M. The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:00 P.M. immediately following the Rosary on Thursday.

Erick was born February 3, 1949 at Fort Gordon. He was the son of Ingeborg Danz Thornley and the late Joseph Byrd. After moving from Charleston, South Carolina, Erick taught foreign languages in the Tift County School System and Tiftarea Academy.

He was a customer service representative at Tennesson Nissan before his illness. While in Tifton he was an active member of Our Divine Saviour Catholic Church . In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of twenty-one years, Mary Martin Byrd, his children Liza Byrd and Andrew Byrd all of Watkinsville.
