Ernest Lynn McMann Jr. Ernest Lynn McMann, Jr., 90, of Harborcreek Twp. , passed away on Sunday April 22, 2018 at HCR ManorCare. He was born in Erie on September 10, 1927 a son of the late Ernest L. McMann, Sr. and Lucille Owens McMann.
Ernest graduated from Academy High School in 1945 where he lettered in wrestling. He served in the United States Navy as a Seaman Second Classes on the U.S.S.Hornet, where he earned the American Theater Medal and the Victory Medal. He worked at GE for 10 years and went on to work as an assistant grocery manager at Loblaws for 37 years.
Ernest served as a Union Stewart for Local 1 Loblaws UFCW and served as Past President of Local 1 Retirees for 10 years. He attended Bethel Baptist Church and was a member of the Siebenbuerger Club and the American Legion Post 571. Ernest enjoyed working in the yard and gardening.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Doris Tanner; and his two brother-in-laws, Robert Tanner and Ralph Shepard. Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Veronica Filipowicz McMann; two sons, Ernest McMann, III and his wife, Marybeth, and James McMann, all of Erie; one daughter, Rebecca McMann Muehl of Madison, OH; three sisters, Norma Shepard of Erie, June Peelman and her husband, Albert, of Erie and Judy Strubel and her husband, Jack, of McKean; four grandchildren, Thomas A. McMann and his wife, Yana, of Cabot, PA, Timothy R. McMann of Yuma, AZ, Christopher J. Laska of Painesville, OH, and Nicholas G. Laska of Green Bay, WI; two great grandchildren, Audrianna B. and Jack K. McMann; and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd.
, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and are invited to services there on Thursday morning at 10:00 a.m.. Burial with military honors will follow in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Brookside Volunteer Fire Station 24 – 3560 Athens St, Erie, PA 16510 or to EmergyCare – 1926 Peach St. Erie, PA 16502.
