Obituary for John J. Suminski Jr. John J. Suminski, Jr., 83, of Erie, passed away peacefully on Tuesday April 10, 2018 at St. Vincent Health Center. He was born in Erie on June 25, 1934 a son of the late John J. Suminski, Sr. and Josephine Merski Suminski Cory. John served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War and worked with Marx Toys for 15 years.
He went on to work at Bucyrus Erie for 20 years and most recently worked as a clerk with the PA Liquor Control Board for 10 years. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, the Foresters Club, and a life member of the Siebenbuerger Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was an avid bowler and fan of the Cleveland Indians and Browns.
In addition to his parents he was preceded by one brother, Richard Suminski. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Dolores L. Ackerly Suminski; three daughters, Sandra Bayhurst and her husband, John, of Waterford, Janice Tuthill and her husband, Scott, of North Carolina, and Susan Connor and her husband, Frank, of Erie; one son, John R. Suminski and his wife, Mary, of Edinboro; 10 grandchildren, John (Leslie), Ann (Sean), Steven, Michelle, Nicholas, Ryan, Rachel, Brian, Michael, and Erica (Colton); one great grandson, Connor ; three half sisters, Dorothy Ladegast and her husband, Larry, of Louisville, KY, Maryanne Troyanowski of Muskegon, MI, and OnaLee Rae Lock of Erie; and many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Russell C. Schmidt & Son Funeral Home Inc., 5000 Wattsburg Rd.
, on Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and are invited to a prayer service there on Monday at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m.. Burial with military honors will follow in Wintergreen Gorge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to the Emmaus Soup Kitchen, 218 E. 11th St., Erie, 16503.
