Ervin’s Obituary Richmond, California – Ervin Henry Motley was born in Reidsville, North Carolina on October 7, 1930. The third son of the late Will and Sallie Harrison Motley. His brothers and sisters, preceded him in death: Lawrence Motley, Walter Motley, Mrs. Terrisa Motley Bell, Mrs. Clarenia Motley Mc Call and Mrs. Australia Thomas.

While residing in Reidsville, Ervin confessed hope in Christ at an early age and was baptized at Elm Grove Baptist Church. During his childhood, he attended elementary and junior high school and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. He pursued further education in Maryland and left college to join the Armed Forces.

Ervin was a military veteran and served in the U. S. Air Force for four years. In 1955, he was honorably discharged. During his life time, he worked as a Clerk and Mail Carrier for the United States Postal Service, where he retired after 30 years of service, at the Richmond, California Annex.

He also was employed and retired from the Golden State Race Track. He operated his own Four Star Laundry Mart for ten years, working in the community. He was an avid bowler and was a member of the Prince Hall Fred C. Brooks Lodge No.

60, F&AM (PHA). In his younger years, he met, fell in love and married Yvonne Camilla Scales, on June 25, 1962. To this union, one son was born, Myron T. Motley.

They enjoyed life together and were happily married for 57 years. Following a prolonged illness, he departed this life on Monday, May 20, 2019, at his loving home. He leaves to cherish and celebrate his home-going: a beloved wife, Yvonne Motley; son, Myron T. Motley; daughter-in-law, Kristi Motley; sister, Louvenia Livingston; a loving niece, Evon Thomas; cousins, nieces, nephews of Reidsville; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted Noon Friday, May 31, 2019 from the chapel of Wilson & Kratzer Funeral Home, 455 24th Street, Richmond, California 94804. This announcement is a courtesy of Johnson & Sons.
