Obituary of Esther Smith Esther Winton Smith, 83, formerly of 114 Wilson Place, passed away Saturday January 19, 2019 in the Heritage Village Rehab and Skilled Nursing Facility. A lifelong area resident, she was born February 26, 1935 in Jamestown the daughter of the late Floyd and Dorothy Persons Winton. Esther was a 1952 graduate of Cassadaga Valley High School.

Prior to retirement, she was employed in the District Superintendant’s Office of the United Methodist Church for 18 ½ years. Earlier she worked for Maloy Farm Supply in Sinclairville and the Bank of Jamestown. She was an active member of Christ First United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years, served on the Missions Board, and coordinated church history and records.

She was also a member of the United Methodist Women’s serving at both the local and district level. In earlier years, she and her husband were members of the United Methodist Church camping group. Surviving are three sons: Bradley A. (Kay) Smith of Columbus, IN, Phillip H. (Becky) Smith of Rock Hill, SC, David A. (Karen) Smith of Loganville, GA; five grandchildren: Christopher A. (Lesley) Smith, Steven D. (Brandy) Smith, Alexei J. (Kaitlyn) Smith, all of Columbus, IN; Cameron A. Smith, and Heather A. Smith, both of Loganville, GA; four great grandchildren, Hunter, Keegan, Katelyn, and Natalie; and a sister, Mary Nowell of Jamestown.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard A. Smith whom she married April 9, 1955 in the Sinclairville Baptist Church and who died March 15, 2005; and a brother, Archie Winton. The funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday in Christ Chapel at Christ First United Methodist Church. The Rev.

Matthew Rowe, pastor, and the Rev. Douglas M. Knopp, retired pastor will officiate. Burial will be in Lake View Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday in the Lind Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association of WNY, 2805 Wehrle Drive Suite 6, Williamsville, NY 14221-7380.
