Ethel Marie Johnson (March 19, 1929 – May 11, 2018) Ethel Johnson, 89, of Cass Lake, MN passed away Friday, May 11, 2018 at Gold Pine in Bemidji, MN. Ethel was born March 19, 1929 in Owatonna, MN to Dolliver and Carrie (Nilson) Beaumont. She grew up and attended school in Owatonna where her family owned and operated a restaurant and fruit market.

She graduated in 1947 from high school and then attended St. Olaf College. She married Kenneth James Johnson on March 1, 1949. They made their home in Owatonna until Ken’s discharge from the U.S. Navy.

In 1956, after a short time in Mankato, they settled in Cass Lake and started to raise their family. Ethel had a variety of jobs including server, retail sales, nurse’s aide, and school aide while living in Cass Lake and Mentor, MN. She also was an Avon Lady for 28 years.

Ethel was active in the St. Olaf choir, The Owatonna Carolers, The Sweet Adelines, and her church choirs. Music was a huge part of her life. Ethel also enjoyed crafts, bowling, fishing, swimming, baking, and chasing around her grandkids.

Ethel was a woman of great faith who loved sharing her inner peace with others. She was a warm, caring woman who will be missed by all those she touched. She is survived by her children, Scott (Jeannette), Sauk Rapids, MN, Janna (William) Greer, Cookeville, TN, Torger (LaVon), Willmar, MN, Jodi (Jerry) LaFountain, Columbia, NC, Julianna (Gary) Simonson, Mentor, MN, and Jacque (John) Pearce, Bemidji, MN; 21 grandchildren and 36 great grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren; her sister Dorothy VonDrashek, White Bear Lake, MN, sister-in-law Elaine Johnson, Owatonna, MN; brother-in-law Lester (Bud) Bayless, Glendale, CA, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ken; her parents; siblings, Tonetta and John Rich, Mabel Bayless, Helen and Raymond Ward, George VonDrashek, Muriel and Mose Anderson, Alan and Maybelle Johnson, Jarod and Pearl Johnson, Orvis Johnson; great-grandson Christian LaFountain. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, May 15, 2018 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cass Lake, MN. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm on Monday evening, May 14th, and 1 hour prior to the service at the church.

A lunch will be served following the service. Interment will be held at a later date.
