Eugene’s Obituary Eugene “Gene” Gorby age 76 passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 12, 2019. Gene was born on September 14, 1942 to Pearl and Laurel (Barnes) Gorby in Sparta, MI. On October 23, 1987, he married the love of his life, the former Charlene Bennett.

He worked early on as a farmer, then drove truck for many years, eventually being the plant manager at Specialty Block/Consumers Concrete Ready-Mix. Gene loved woodworking, traveling and going to the casino. He was a big jokester, and everyone loved that about him.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and his daughter-in-law Keli Gorby. Gene is survived by his loving wife, Charlene Gorby of Ionia; sons, Scott Gorby (Sheri Pearce) of Ionia, Kevin (Lynette) Gorby of Ionia, Darryl Gorby of Mount Pleasant and Brian (Audra) Gorby of Caledonia; stepchildren, Bryan (Sherry) Lott of Ionia, Rhonda (Gary) Roe of Holt and Jody Trumble of Texas; brothers, Kenneth Gorby of Tennessee, Keith (Lori) Gorby of Ionia and David (Glenda) Gorby of Belding; sisters, Beverly Dean of Florida and Marcia Gaetano (Jim Betts) of Comstock park; he is survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A Visitation will be held from 11 am to 1 pm on Saturday, January 19, at Lake Funeral Home in Ionia.
